Accessibility and inclusion statement

Accessibility statement

At THIS Labs, we know that when people feel valued, respected and included they are more innovative, creative and engaged. We are aiming for our platform and community to be accessible for everyone. Our participants are at the heart of our work, and we aim to champion inclusivity and accessibility in the services we provide.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Compliance status

Our online products have been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) by the Shaw Trust. We aim to meet the WCAG 2.1 'AA' standard for web accessibility.

How accessible are our products?

We know some parts of the Thiscovery website, survey platform and community are not fully accessible. We are working on some known problems with our products’ accessibility.

Thiscovery website

We are currently working to:

  • Make mandatory form fields more accessible for sighted or screenreader users (to meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose).

Thiscovery surveys

We are currently working to:

  • Make mandatory form fields more accessible for sighted or screenreader users (to meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose).
  • Make multiple choice and other question types more accessible for screenreader users, by removing duplicate or empty form field labels (to meet WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose and 1.1.1 Non-text Content).
  • Inform screenreader users clearly that an error has occurred, or how to fix it (to meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.3.1 Error Identification).
  • Make sure that information in expanding accordion boxes adequately informs screenreader users that content (for example video transcripts) appears below when the accordion is opened (to meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value or 3.2.2 On Input).

We are aware that some survey question types, including those that involve dragging and dropping objects, or selecting a region of an image, are not currently accessible to all users. Where possible we aim to avoid using these question types unless there is an accessible alternative.

Thiscovery community

We are aware of the following accessibility limitations with our community platform.

  • The map module on the Webinars and Events and People pages does not support keyboard navigation and screen reader (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard).
  • The Notify people feature of the live feed does not fully support keyboard navigation yet.

Feedback - we're listening

We might not get it right first time, but we will always be in conversation with you to make sure we put it right as soon as we can. If you see something we need to work on, please let us know at hello@thiscovery.org.
